We are but skippers of stones in the river of life, but see! how brightly such stones shine. This newsletter is dedicated to those simple fools who seek meaning within our ever changing world(s).

Welcome to From the Edges to the Wild by me, Ran Xu. Ran is an writer, artist, calligrapher and tea connoisseur who also happens to have adventurous careers in politics & economics. Most of all, she is a simple traveler.

Winter is a time of repose- a quiet space for quiet thoughts. It is appropriate thus to kick off our newsletter with a whisper of a pen.

In the coming weeks, we will be exploring the following themes:

Transparent Beings- A look at the porous boundaries between our internal and external world.

Firstly up- Where do feelings live?

  • A look at the location of emotions in Tang Poetry and European courtly poetry.

  • Visualizing the internal world- Dutch still life painting

  • Visualizing the internal world- Blank spaces are full

Secondly- The body and its malcontents

  • You are just a vessel— Things get personal. Experiencing my body through Chinese IVF hospitals. This is an ongoing series documenting my journey through in the Chinese hospital systems.

And because we always talk over tea— this will be an ongoing series on tea and conversations around tea.

Coda: Conversations with tea

  • What’s in a leaf?

In the meantime, tell your friends!
